Back from the break!

So, turns out "a few more weeks" became a few months, but I'm back from my break! Don't expect weekly blog posts right away, but I'll try to make them happen nonetheless!

Meanwhile, I didn't spend much time on the project, but I still added a few things. New doors, animations, and a lot of internal things too!

First, about the last few months. This wasn't a complete hiatus from the project, as I added a few things here and there that could have warranted a blog post, but it was more the... Everything that happened, especially over the last month, that didn't help motivate me to continue things.

So, what did I do during this time? Surprisingly more than I remembered and expected!

First, back in late March / early April just before properly going on break, I did a bit of cleanup of the debug menu. It now has an included event editor, quick navigation for levels, and more! This has been pretty useful to quickly test things without spinning up a new map each time.

Then, in May, I did two things. First, I added a new suspension animation, inspired by a picture I saw:

It's a bit janky and unfinished, but I think it looks pretty cool!

Then, I spent a few days in late May working on new, infinite procedurally generated terrain, and also on ground textures for this terrain. The result is... Also not perfect, but it's better than before!

There's still work to do for actually making things "spawn" in the infinite map, but I've put it on pause - both because it's not part of the alpha 2 release and was just a bonus.

I spent a bit of time adding systems to handle anchors better near the beginning of June. Then, I added a new "anchor" that's just for me: a "magically removed limbs" anchor.

As well as a short animation for a limbless character being teased:

This is probably not being in the final game, at least not without heavy content warnings. But people who know me and/or have read Learn Your Place already know that this is something I like!

Anyways, after that, I took another break that lasted a couple of months this time, mostly due to work.

After the break, I came back at the beginning of August, and jumped right back into making things!

First, on August 2, I made yet another anchor, with a suspension branch this time (great for outdoors! Or indoors, if you insist on it.)

Then, two days ago, I properly went back to making stuff for the project. First, I added a new "bad end test scene" involving the sybian and the dark mage, allowing me to test the activation of the glow effect. I added a few more animations for that bad end, too.

I also reworked the walls, ground, and doorways for the grid layout, fixing a few bugs, and added new doors too!

In addition to all of that, but unrelated, I also re-looked my landing page at sleepy.place - it now includes all of my projects and things directly! If you're here, you probably know about it anyways (since this is where this blog is hosted), but in case you didn't know!

Over the next few weeks, I'll try to make more progress towards what I'd like to properly become alpha 2. I'm not making any proper plans right now, the last few months have shown me that I can't really commit to them right now, but I'm hoping to have more fun stuff to show at least, and maybe even finish things enough to announce it properly and make it playable!
